Do You Really Need A Fire Pit Ring?
Fire pits are one of the most popular DIY projects nowadays. They’re easy to make, they look pretty cool, and they provide a nice place to relax after work or school. However, there are some things you may want to consider before making your own fire pit. For example: Do you really need a fire pit ring? Is it worth spending money on something that will not last forever? Or maybe you don’t even need a fire pit at all!
The answer depends on how much time you have and how much space you’ll get with your new fire pit. If you’re just looking for a quick way to enjoy the outdoors, then yes, a fire pit ring is probably unnecessary. But if you plan on doing any outdoor activities like camping or hiking, then having a good quality firepit liner might be necessary.
What Is A Fire Pit Liner?
A fire pit liner is basically a waterproof material that goes inside of your fire pit. It protects the surface from water damage and keeps out insects and rodents. There are several types of liners available, but two main ones are PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and vinyl. Both materials are non-toxic, so they won’t harm your home or the environment when used properly.
PVC liners are the cheapest options, but they require more care and maintenance to keep your fire pit working well. For example, regular cleaning of the vinyl liner is needed to prevent it from melting or ripping when used, as well as keeping debris out of the fire pit. In addition, some PVC liners don’t last long and may need to be replaced after several uses. They are also heavier than vinyl liners, so they may be harder to move around.
Vinyl liners are more expensive than PVC but are much easier to maintain. Most vinyl liners do not need to be cleaned after every use and can even be left outside, as long as it is anchored down. Vinyl fire pit ring also weighs much less than the PVC alternative, making it easier to move around. However, vinyl may give off a plastic-like smell when burned, and it may crack over time.
There are other types of fire pit liners available as well, such as copper and steel rings. These materials are heavier than vinyl and PVC but they also last much longer without the need for replacement. However, these types are much more expensive than vinyl or PVC and are typically meant to be decorative rather than functional.
What Are The Different Types Of Fire Pit?
There are four main types of fire pit ring, each with their own pros and cons. These are fire pits with grates, raised fire pits, in-ground fire pits and the humble fire rings.
A fire pit with a grate is the most common type and you’ve probably seen one before at a campground or park. With this design, the fire is contained within a metal cage to prevent stray sparks from flying away. These fire pits are great for cooking food or roasting marshmallows, but they can’t be left unattended because the metal grate can become very hot and could cause serious burns.
A raised fire pit is much like a concrete flower pot, only larger and with a fire in the bottom. These pits are usually made of brick or stone and contain no grates, so they can be considered much safer. However, you can’t cook or roast foods with a raised fire pit since the flames are completely encased.
Raised fire pits can also double as garden decor when not in use. These types of fire pits may be safer than traditional pits, but the ground underneath can get very hot and cause discomfort to bare feet. For this reason, it’s important to keep any children or pets away from the area.
Raised fire pits are also fairly easy to make; instructions and tutorials can be found online with a quick search. Just be sure that you use heat resistant bricks or stones, otherwise your fire pit may end up becoming the opposite of safe: flammable.
An in-ground fire pit is a hole in the ground that you physically dig out yourself. You can make the hole small or large depending on how many people you intend on entertaining. These types of fire pits are very useful if you have a large party or get-together since you have plenty of space to move around and aren’t confined to a tiny circle.
Fire rings are probably the least popular pit design, simply because they lack customization options. Fire rings are simply holes in the ground that are lined with stones and capped with a wrought iron fence. They give you the bare minimum when it comes to fire pits, although they are rather pretty to look at. However, if you crave extra space for your guests or a place to sit and roast marshmallows, you may want to consider the other types of fire pits.
Regardless of which fire pit design you choose, just be sure that it is away from any overhanging branches or hedges, won’t impede anyone’s travel and is located on flat and stable ground. Trees may seem like the perfect location for a fire pit, but they can be dangerous since the roots can undermine the hole and make it unstable. Also, make sure that there is plenty of clearance on all sides to accommodate your guests. After all, no one wants to trip over furniture in the dark.
If you’re having a get-together or large party, it may also be a good idea to set up extra chairs or loungers for your guests to sit and chat.
