How to Attach Flashing To Concrete Slab?
Flashing is one of the most common types of decorative elements found in modern architecture. It adds a unique touch to any building or home.
The term “flashing” refers to the flashing of metal or other materials on a surface. These are often decorative elements such as lights, railings, fountains, etc.
There are many different types of flashing. The most commonly used one is referred to as the “Flashing”. This is a very small, curved piece of metal that is placed on an overhang or any other surface where water may be sitting still for some time.
For example: copper flashing; aluminum flashing; stainless steel flashing; lead flashing and galvanized flashing, etc. For example, the flashing is placed on the bottom of a window frame. The first thing that you need to do is to assess the problem. What exactly are you trying to solve? Is the flashing on your wall or on your roof? Or maybe you are trying to stop water from seeping into the wall that separates your kitchen and living room.
Once you have identified the problem area, you can then proceed to the next step.
For flashing a wall, it is very easy to do. All that you have to do is place the flashing on top of the wall and nail it on every 12 inches or less. This step is very easy since you won’t need any special tools for this.
Make sure that the flashing overlaps with the wall by at least 4 to 6 inches.
If you are flashing a roof, then you need to do it differently, though the concept is still the same. Place the flashing on top of the roof. If it is a gabled roof then place it on the peak.
For a flat roof, place the flashing all over the roof.
What you need to do next is remove the shingles from the areas where you are going to nail the flashing. This may be a bit messy so make sure that you wear the right protective gear.
After that, you just need to nail down the flashing with galvanized nails to hold it down. The nails should be long enough to pierce through the shingles and go at least 2 inches into the sheathing or plywood and at least 1 inch into the subfloor.
Another way of flashing a roof is to use the self-adhesive flashing tape. It comes in rolls and you just need to cut out the size that you need for your project.
In most cases, this flashing tape is used for a chimney that penetrates through a roof. The flashing tape is placed over the chimney flashing and is adhered to the chimney on one side and then over the roof and adhered at the opposite side. This creates a watertight seal.
You can also use flashing tape as an ice dam. To do this, you just need to cut the flashing tape into strips and apply it over the roofing material and around the edges of the roof.
This tape will create a barrier that water cannot get through and so it will prevent ice from forming on top of the roof. As a precaution, you should also install an ice and water shield behind the flashing tape.
