How Much Should Gutters Cost?
Gutters are installed with the purpose of keeping water out from your home. If you have a large yard or backyard, then it will be difficult to keep all the rainwater inside. You need some way to prevent water from entering your house. Guttering is one solution for preventing such problems.
The most common type of gutter is the standard metal mesh. These are made up of several layers of steel wire mesh, which are separated by plastic material. This provides protection against rainwater entering through the gaps between the wires and running into your house. However, these types of gutter do not provide enough space for every family member to enter safely when necessary.
Another type of gutter is called a leaf guard. Leaf guards are made up of multiple layers of plastic sheeting, which are connected together by metal rods. They also provide protection against rainwater entering through the gaps between the sheets and running into your house. But they cannot stop all rainwater from entering because there is still a small opening at the bottom where rainwater runs out.
There are other types of gutter too like PVC pipe, concrete pipes, etc.
Another type of gutter is the double-layered mesh. These are made up of two layers of wire mesh and a third layer of plastic material. They offer better protection than standard metal mesh but they still allow rainwater to enter your house if there is no other means to stop it.
In addition, there are various types of vinyl siding, which offers greater protection against water infiltration than regular metal siding. However, these types are not as popular as the first two.
Seamless guttering is another alternative. These gutters are specifically designed so that there are no apparent seams. In case you don’t know, a seam is that point where two pieces of material join. Seams can allow the entry of water if they are not properly sealed. The good thing about seamless gutters is that they do not have any seams, hence preventing water from entering your home.
But most vinyl siding cannot withstand excessive moisture and will start to appear warped and buckled when it gets too wet.
How Much Will It Cost?
The average price for installing gutter systems starts at around $3,000. The average price for installing gutter guards starts at around $1,000. The average price for installing leaf guards starts at around $800. The average price for vinyl siding starts at around $6,000. However, these types are mostly used by professional roofers, making them a bit hard to find for the rest of us.
One material that is commonly used in the production of gutters is copper. This is one of the most popular types of gutter available on the market to this day. It has excellent water conducting properties and it lasts for a very long time. The average price for seamless guttering starts at around $7,000.
If you want to hire decently paid professional gutter cleaners, then you should expect to pay at least $150 a year. The average price for vinyl siding replacement is around $600. If you want to replace your current gutters for seamless guttering then you should expect to pay at least $1,200. The only downside to copper gutters is that they cost more than most other types of gutter.
One of the least common types of gutter is made from lead. It has excellent water conducting properties and lasts for a very long time as well. But this type of gutter has been outlawed due to the harmful effects of lead on the human body. Even trace amounts have proven to be deadly, hence its rarity nowadays.
If you don’t want to pay the high costs of hiring a professional gutter cleaning service or replacing them altogether, then you should research the various types of gutter systems that I have mentioned above and decide which one is best for you.
In my opinion, I don’t think it is necessary to replace your gutters if you don’t experience any problems with them. As long as they can do their job properly, i.e. directing water away from your house, then there’s no reason for you to replace them.
To increase the life span of your gutters, you can purchase gutter covers, which prevent leaves and debris from blocking the openings of your gutters. This reduces the need for maintenance by a large margin. Alternatively, you could have leaf guards installed. These covers are sturdy grates that are placed over the openings to block debris from getting in while allowing rain to flow through. directing rainwater away from your home, then there’s no need to replace them.
But if you do have problems with water entering your home due to gutters that are old and damaged then I do think that replacing them is the way to go. Just make sure you buy quality seamless guttering. There are a lot of types available on the market but, like I always say, you get what you pay for.
I hope this article has provided you with the information you need to make an informed decision on whether or not to replace your gutters. Good luck with your project!
