The difference between Dewalt 20V Max and XR batteries is quite significant. There are some major differences which will affect your electric vehicle (EV) charging experience.

When it comes to electric vehicles (EV), there are two main types of power sources – gasoline powered and electricity powered. For gasoline-powered cars, the time needed to refill the tank and be on your way is very quick – a few minutes at most. For electric vehicles, charging the battery pack can take hours.
Both have their own benefits and drawbacks which we will discuss later, but for now we are going to be focusing on the charging side of things. Since the introduction of electric cars, many companies have been trying to improve the charging time to make this alternative more appealing.
Both Dewalt 20V Max and XR batteries use lithium-ion batteries.
Gas-powered vehicles are able to combust gasoline (and other fossil fuels) which creates a large amount of energy and puts it to good use. These batteries are known for having a high energy capacity-to-weight ratio and a low self-discharge rate, making them an excellent choice for use in cordless power tools. An internal combustion engine is able to use this energy source to create motion which can move a vehicle.
Electric vehicles have a much different process. Electricity is able to be created in a variety of ways, one of the most common being burning fossil fuels and running generators.
Electric vehicles, on the other hand, rely on batteries for their energy. These batteries use photons from the sun (or giant light bulbs) to energize electrons which move through the circuit and power the vehicle. Since this all takes place at the atomic and subatomic level, it is much more difficult to create something that absorbs, holds, and releases this energy in a quick and efficient manner.
Luckily, as technology has improved over the years, so have the batteries.
As far as your batteries are concerned, this goes hand-in-hand with the quality of the battery cell. A battery cell is made up of multiple components that are able to produce a spark which can be used to power a car or, in this case, a power tool. Poor battery cells can short or leak electricity which can cause a fire.
It is important to have a good grasp on the quality of your battery cell if you want to have a good quality product.
Both brand of batteries use the same battery chemistry so there is no difference in that regard.
The difference between the two products lies in how they charge the battery cells.
Dewalt 20V Max batteries charge very quickly, taking only 30 minutes to get a full charge from empty. This is thanks to its own charging technology and also the battery cells that are used. DeWalt 20v Max batteries use a special cell made by Panasonic known as the ‘MJ1′.
The battery cell has a higher capacity than your average battery cell. It is also able to charge much quicker. This allows the batteries to have more power and to charge much faster.
This makes the DeWalt 20V Max range great for jobs which require a lot of power in a short amount of time.
The technology which makes this possible is referred to as ‘Factory Charging’. This technology allows for a constant charge to the battery cells. It can reach the full potential of the battery cell in a short period of time because it does not depend on a regular charger.
Hitachi XR range of battery cells charge more conventionally. They use what is known as ‘Trickle Charging’. This is the most common method of charging.
It works by putting the battery cell on a charger which gives it a small amount of charge until it reaches full capacity. This can take up to 12 hours to fully charge. Trickle charging is used because it prolongs the battery cell’s life cycle.
As you can see, both of these battery cells have their pros and cons. It all comes down to what you need.
If you need a lot of power in a short period of time, then go with the DeWalt. It will get the job done with no issues. If, however, you are looking for a more long-term solution which will save you time in the long run, then go with the Hitachi.
