If you want to build a sturdy roof which will keep your house dry you should consider the following:

The next best kind of roof is the slanted roof. These roofs are easy to build out of asbestos or asphalt sheets. The only major problem with this type of roof is that it often leaks during the first few months after construction. After a few months however, the leaks usually stop occurring.
If you want to build an arch or dome, then you will need to construct a curved roof. These roofs are often made out of wood and they do not leak. The only problem with this type of roof is that it can be susceptible to strong winds- if your roof can withstand a category 5 hurricane, more power to you!
Now that you’ve decided what type of roof you should have, it’s time to figure out how big you want your roof to be.
The bigger your roof is, the stronger it needs to be. This is why very big roofs, such as cathedrals, are often made out of stone.
For small houses, the typical roof size is about 1/3 the size of the house itself. For example, a house that is 100 feet long would have a 30 foot ceiling. If you want to build a larger house, then you will need to have an equally large roof to support it.
If you want to build a very large house, you may want to construct a series of smaller roof sections and combine them together. This way, the load is spread out over a greater area and your walls will not need to be nearly as thick or strong.
Whether you are using wood, metal or stone for your roof material, it is important to remember that larger roof sections require a much stronger and thicker framework to support them. If you’re constructing a series of smaller roof sections and combining them together, you must still make sure that each individual section can stand on its own without leaning on the other sections for support.
Once you’ve figured out the size of your roof, you’ll need to decide whether you want a flat, slanted or curved roof.
Flat roofs are relatively easy to build but you’ll need to make sure that the walls are strong enough to support the roof.
Slanted roofs are much easier to construct than flat roofs because you’re not trying to support the entire roof with the walls. The downside of slanted roofs is that they often leak during rainstorms.
Curved roofs are usually made out of wood, stone or metal. Wooden roofs often cannot withstand strong winds. Stone and metal roofs can handle stronger winds but they are more expensive to build and repair.
