In most cases there are only one check valve for well. However, if there are two pumps, then it’s better to have two check valves.

There are different types of check valves depending upon the type of pump. Some of them are:

1) Water Pump Check Valve – A water pump check valve is used when the water pressure exceeds the capacity of the pump. It protects pumps from getting damaged.

A check valve is installed at the discharge side of the pump.

2) Submersible Pump Check Valve – It is also known as the back flow preventer. It prevents the pump from working in reverse.

2) Pressure Reducing Check Valve – A pressure reducing check valve is used to reduce the water pressure. It has a bubble trap and a bypass valve.

It is a device that is used at the discharge side of a submersible pump. It stops the back flow and protects the pump from any potential damage. It helps to protect a pump or appliance from getting damaged due to high-pressure conditions.

1) Back Flow Preventer – It prevents the back-siphonage of contaminants into the potable water supply.

3) Non-Pressure Reducing Check Valve – A non-pressure reducing check valve doesn’t have a bubble trap. It doesn’t protect the pump from lessening the pressure.

It is a device that is installed between the pump and the water supply. Instead, it protects the pump from getting damaged by back flow of water. It is especially helpful for pumps in which the discharge pressure is greater than potable water supply.
